Input Sale and Marketing Centers (ISMC)
 
In Project one or two (68 in total, i.e., 2 centers in one district) ISMC will be established in one cluster of 30 villages in each district under the supervision and management of VO. The VOs will negotiate credit/loan with the commercial banks for the establishment of these centers and the project will provide matching seed money/grant to VOs to the tune of Rs 3 to 4 million per ISMC. Alternatively, they can collect/raise this money from their member farmers and project will provide the matching grant. These centers will work as hubs of input sale, marketing of farmers’ produce and future business development programs.
 
These centers will initially undertake selling of inputs to their members and non-members on payment/credit with guaranteed quality, quantity and reasonable price. The project will help VOs to obtain dealership of fertilizer, seed and pesticides for this input sale centre. This activity will provide a permanent foundation set-up to VOs to initiate business activities for the long term benefit of farming community. In addition, this set-up will be a source of rapid growth of their Revolving Fund. At appropriate time, VOs can enter into other developing/income generation interventions. Also federation of these centers/VOs at higher level will give rise to Crop Commodity Boards as well as Credit Societies on the pattern of other developed countries to cover aspects of marketing of various crops, extension services, setting up of processing industries for the benefit of farming community.
